The check-in: Five (billion) things that make me happy
Believe it or not, good things are happening in the world of women's sports.
Hi, friends. It’s been a heavy week in the world of women’s sports with all the Rubiales fuckery, and unfortunately, the man’s misbehavior has taken a lot of attention away from some fabulous stuff happening elsewhere in the space.
So, since we’re way overdue for a check-in anyways, I thought I would go ahead and focus this newsletter on things that have happened recently in the women’s sports world that bring me joy. The good news? There’s a lot to pick from. (The bad news? Since Twitter embeds don’t work, these posts aren’t nearly as fun to curate, so this is YouTube and TikTok heavy, but we’ll all survive, I promise.)
Happy Monday, and as always, thanks for the support!
1. Simone Biles is really, really back.
The Simone Biles Invitational — er, I mean the U.S. gymnastics championships — took place in San Jose over the weekend, and goodness was it an incredible show.
Biles won her eighth national title, and at 26 years old, became the oldest woman to win the event. Next up? The world championships, which take place at the end of September. (So soon!!)
Everything Biles did was absolutely incredible, but you especially need to see this vault from the first night:
