There may be outlets who are currently ahead of where you want yours to be, but I guarantee you there are many, many outlets that did not make it. I will be presumptuous and speak for all of your readers when I say we will take you however often we can get you. Yours is the first newsletter I ever paid for. Your contributions are important to the women's sports landscape.
"With the benefit of hindsight, perhaps this crash was not as unexpected as it seemed at the time." Lol aren't they all, very much related to this.
Happy to hear you're doing better. We haven't ever interacted. Just wanted to hop into the comments to say I really enjoy your work, particulary the "From the archives". The shift to more click bait-y/mens sports style coverage as womens sports becomes more popular has been a personal frustration of mine. (I never need to hear Stephen A. Speak about womens basketball again). The depth and care you take in your coverage is greatly appreciated. Power Plays is the first newsletter I ever paid to support and have since gone on to support others because of Power Plays.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday and a smooth recovery. Looking forward to Power Plays in 2025.
Hi Lindsay: I've been eager to hear from you after your surgery, so many thanks for sharing with all of us what it's been like to go through this significant life change. And I love that you made it to Kansas City and reported there, as you did, and once again, from your reporting I learned a lot and challenged my own thinking. What you tackle in PowerPlays holds a unique and valued spot in our women's sports ecosystem, and while it can be frustrating to not be getting clicks that others get, staying true to your vision is garnering you the esteem you deserve. Melissa
hi! just a quick pep talk--i've been following your work since probably 2017 or 2018, when "burn it all down" was the first outlet i got into that covered women's sports. you and i weirdly tag-teamed the NWSL championships--i went to 2021-2023, but didn't go this year. i, too, have seen newer outlets blow up in terms of eyeballs and sponsorships, but i've always appreciated your voice in the mix. your writing has more depth and context than a lot of the more clickbait-y outlets (*cough* jws *cough*) and i really appreciate the perspective of someone who has been in the women's sports world since before anyone had even heard of caitlin clark. i'm really glad you're still in my inbox!! i hope your recovery continues to go smoothly.
Echoing so much of what Lindsay commented. I know imposter syndrome isn’t rational but you (& BIAD) were the OGs who were not only covering women’s sports in terms of games at a time when few were but you were the only ones covering sexism across sports in a deep way. From my view your work has been similar to the early days of the NWSL you described here — you were doing it at a time when there was less attention and resources and that was necessary to get to a place where there are many more voices. I’m sorry that life has made it hard to be more in the center of the recent growth in women’s sports media but your work still matters! And even when you’re not writing as often, you’re having an impact on those of us who connect in the Power Plays slack which only exists because of you.
Thank you Lindsey, your voice is sincere and has been the center of my learning journey about sports in general and particularly the history of women's sports. I miss hearing your voice on podcasts, but am so happy to get to read all the amazing things you write. Your contributions in this space are already immense, and honestly life-changing for me in how I see the power and passion involved in sports and life.

You have to take care of yourself first.
